Statement of Solidarity with Lithuania’s Public Broadcaster LRT
The Federazione Lega Diritti del Malato expresses its full support and solidarity with the journalists, staff, and management of LRT, Lithuania’s national public broadcaster, currently facing political pressure and legislative changes that threaten its independence.
Public media is not a privilege — it is a pillar of democracy, transparency, and public health.
When a public broadcaster is weakened or politically influenced, those who suffer most are citizens — especially the vulnerable, the elderly, the ill, and all those who rely on trusted information to navigate daily life and healthcare decisions.
🔹 Free information protects public health.
🔹 Independent media protects democracy.
🔹 Public broadcasting protects everyone.
We stand with those defending LRT’s editorial independence and the fundamental right to reliable, unbiased information.
✒️ Message from our President, Arch. Marco Gemelli
“Media freedom is non-negotiable. A healthy democracy requires strong, independent public broadcasting. Today, the defense of LRT is the defense of European values — truth, transparency, and the right of every citizen to be informed without interference.”
✊ From the entire Federal Board of the Federazione Lega Diritti del Malato:
We call on institutions, civil society, and all defenders of democracy to protect LRT and safeguard the principles enshrined in the European Media Freedom Act.
🔵 We stand with Lithuania.
🔵 We stand with LRT.
🔵 We stand with media freedom
